Odor Control Technician (OCT)

The Odor Control Technician (OCT) certification covers olfaction and odor, odor sources, detection process, theory of odor control, equipment, chemical options, and applications. Upon achieving the certification, you demonstrate how to address odors caused by biological sources such as decomposition, urine contamination, mold, combustion sources such as fire and smoke damage, and chemical sources such as fuel oil spills or volatile organic chemicals.


Participants will learn:

  • Finding the source of odors
  • Handling light, moderate and heavy odor situations
  • Effective removal of smoke odors
  • How to provide customers with GUARANTEED pet odor removal
  • How to estimate profitably
  • The theory of odors
  • Sales and marketing
  • Unrevealed trade secrets

Odor Control Technicians go beyond basic cleaning to solve complex, deeply embedded odor problems. They remove harmful contaminants, restore healthy living/working conditions, and prevent lingering smells from decreasing property value.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites required.

Certification Options

In-person certification only.

Master Designation

You must obtain this certification to earn:

Master Textile Cleaner designation

Master Fire and Smoke Restorer designation

1 day course; 7 hours, not including exam time, lunch and breaks

Exam fee: $80.00 payable to the IICRC and collected by the instructor prior to the exam.

Class Cancellation Policy

Due to the expenses involved with scheduling classes including, but not limited to, travel arrangements required by our instructors, it is necessary to implement the following cancellation policies:
Customer Cancellations made more than 14 days in advance of the class: We will provide a full refund, less a $100.00 processing fee.
Customer Cancellations made within 14 days of the class: No refunds are possible, but you may choose to transfer your seat to someone else within your organization; re-schedule to another class; or choose to receive a credit in equipment or supplies. Note, that there will be a $100.00 processing fee for re-scheduling a class.
In the event of a no-show for class, there will be no refund, transfer, or equipment/supply exchange permitted.
Classes Rescheduled by Us: All reservations will be transferred to the new date at no charge.
Classes Cancelled by Us: Every customer is entitled to a full refund.

Classes Cancelled by Us due to inclement weather, national emergencies, or unforeseen emergency circumstances: Every customer is entitled to a full refund or a seat in the next available class.
